TR4VM4

Built - Extracurricular group work, w/ Tayfun Saman, Ayşe Tuğçe Pınar, Tuna Öğüt, Hellastock Athens, 2014.

The “learning by doing” experience of experimenting on real scale constructions is a priceless opportunity to improve one’s architectural skills, but unfortunately rare enough to seize. Given the experimentation on specific materials, this event was based on the idea of the ephemeral city, a purpose- built complex lasting only for as long as the workshop takes place, while participants are requested to design and accomplish their own shelter. A city that rises up and expands within a three-day period after which, there is no imprint left but the unforgettable, exciting experience.
In the summer of the first year, with the courage and excitement of being freshmen, me and three friends of mine found ourselves applying for construction of an ephemeral city above 1.5 meters of water in Athens. Our proposal was selected and became one of the 40 structures to be built from 17 European countries in Piraeus Harbour.
My role in this team project covers the collaboration in design thinking, form finding, thinking on possible uses of elements, representation of the project and problem-solving phase at the construction site.
