İrem Korkmaz

İrem Korkmaz (b. 1995, Istanbul) is a sociable introvert. She did not speak until the age of two; during this period, she communicated with others using a silent language she developed herself, relying on hand gestures. At the age of three, her passion for painting was discovered, and she continued developing her skills in the field through workshops for the following 20 years. She also developed a deep interest in observing expression systems and the unique ways in which individuals think and create.
She was among the first students of the BİLSEM program, developed by the Turkish Ministry of National Education for gifted and talented children. During her childhood, she received mentorship in philosophy, painting, and mathematics; and developed various projects.
Irem completed her undergraduate studies at ITU Faculty of Architecture and the Technical University of Munich, and pursued her master’s degree at ITU Architecture Department, focusing on situated practices and individuality. During her university years, she became the first Turkish student selected for the Oskar-von-Miller Forum Excellence Program in Germany. Through the Arkitera Travel Grant, sponsored by Geberit, she conducted research on participatory practices in San Francisco.
She tutored in first-year architecture studios at MEF University and designed courses on spatial writing and modes of expression. Since 2024, she has been running her own studio, conducting workshops for adults and children on original modes of expression, while continuing her personal art practice.
